2022 Mâcon, Mark Haisma

Aussie turned honorary Burgundian Mark Haisma is now very well established in his smart new winery in Gilly-lès-Cîteaux, the small village living quietly in the shadow of its more illustrious neighbour, Vougeot.

Mark began his Burgundian journey buying fruit, but over time has created strong relationships with growers who now let him work the vines and harvest the grapes according to how and when he wants to. He has also purchased some vineyards along the way which he farms organically.

We recently retasted one of his newer wines which comes from his own vines which he bought 4 years ago. It tasted so good we thought it deserved to have a special offer all of its own.

Officially it’s a Mâcon but in future vintages it will have its correct label as a Mâcon Villages, the level above. This 2022 is perfect for drinking now and over the next 18 months. It’s bright and fresh, yet full of fruit without veering anywhere close to the over-rich lane. Once you’ve recovered from a close up of his bearded face you will be very envious of the glorious weather in which the vines are finally basking after such a challenging growing season.

This is a wine that punches nicely above its weight and one which is well worth stocking up quite heavily on for all those late summer gatherings.
